West Bengal police kill two suspects in separate encounters

Two separate police encounters occurred in West Bengal on Tuesday involving suspects accused of high-profile crimes. In North 24 Parganas district, Prahlad Das, a 23-year-old accused in the rape and murder of a 17-year-old student, was killed during a crime scene reconstruction in Gaighata. Police reported that Das snatched a service revolver from an officer and opened fire, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense. Das was declared dead at Chandpara Rural Hospital.

In a separate incident in the Samserganj area of Murshidabad, Samiul Sheikh, an accused in the murder of BJP worker Sujit Mondal, was also killed in an encounter. According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Sheikh was being taken to the crime scene for reconstruction when he allegedly seized a firearm from an officer and opened fire. He later died at Jangipur Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Both incidents have drawn significant attention due to the circumstances of the shootings during crime scene recreations. In the Gaighata case, the victim's family had previously reported her missing after she left a musical program, and her body was later discovered near a neighbor's house.
