West Bengal quarry owner Tulu Mondal probed for 84 government contracts

A probe has been launched into how stone quarry owner Tulu Mondal, also known as Mohammad Nazibuddin, secured 84 government construction contracts during the previous Trinamool Congress rule in West Bengal. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has begun preparatory steps for its own investigation, while state police have sealed Mondal’s residence in Suri after seizing cash and gold worth about Rs 50 crore from a relative’s home.

Investigators found that Mondal Stone Products, despite lacking prior experience, was awarded contracts for road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the state’s Pathashree scheme, and river‑dam constructions across Birbhum and neighboring districts. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari announced that accounts holding Rs 93 crore have been frozen and said the alleged corruption could not have occurred without the backing of former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
