West Bengal seeks BHAVYA Rasayan chemical park to spur industrial growth

BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya wrote to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari urging the state to act quickly to secure a modern chemical park under the central government's ₹3,030‑crore BHAVYA Rasayan scheme. The Union Cabinet approved three such parks on July 24, each eligible for a central grant of up to ₹1,000 crore, with states required to contribute ₹500 crore and provide at least 2,000 acres of contiguous land. Potential sites highlighted include Singur, Haldia, Raghunathpur and Durgapur, provided land disputes are avoided.

If approved, the park is expected to attract substantial domestic and foreign private investment, generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs across chemicals, construction, logistics and MSMEs, and support sectors such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, electronics, automotive and agriculture. It would also involve modern waste‑management facilities, including a common effluent treatment plant, and could boost exports through Haldia Port. The proposal revisits West Bengal’s historic industrial base and aims to revive its manufacturing potential after years of stalled large‑scale projects.
