West Bengal weather forecast predicts rain and thunderstorms

Weather authorities have forecast a period of thunderstorms and rain across West Bengal, providing relief from recent heat in South Bengal while maintaining high alerts for North Bengal.

In South Bengal, a cyclonic circulation over the northwest Bay of Bengal and a low-pressure system are expected to bring thunderstorms and light to moderate rain. Yellow alerts have been issued for several districts, including Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram, and the Midnapore districts. Kolkata is expected to experience cloudy skies and thundershowers, with potential for waterlogging in low-lying areas.

North Bengal remains under higher alert due to more active monsoon conditions. Heavy to very heavy rain warnings are in effect for hilly regions such as Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar. Authorities have warned that heavy rainfall in these areas could trigger landslides and disrupt transportation. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 km/h are expected across the region.
