West Java advances food waste reduction and community disaster resilience programs

The Indonesia Business Council for Sustainable Development (IBCSD) and the West Java provincial government held a training session on reducing food waste and salvaging surplus food. The event targeted hotels, restaurants, cafés, retailers and bakeries, emphasizing that cutting waste improves operational efficiency and cuts costs. Executive Director Indah Budiani noted that food waste accounts for about 39 % of the province’s total waste, highlighting the environmental and economic benefits of the initiative.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized an ASEAN‑ID Roadshow in Bandung, part of the ASEAN Committee on Disaster Management meeting. The program showcased community‑based disaster resilience practices, involved university students, a village visit, and cultural activities, and stressed the role of youth in regional climate and disaster preparedness. Officials Yuliana Bahar, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri and Yoshiyasu Iseki highlighted the importance of local engagement and youth leadership in building resilience.
