Java Drought Triggers Massive Water Aid and Weather Alerts
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast mostly clear to partly cloudy conditions across Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi on 3‑4 July, with temperatures reaching up to 35 °C. Elsewhere in Indonesia, the agency warned of light to moderate rain in western regions and isolated showers in parts of Java.
Amid the dry season, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) confirmed that areas of drought on Java are receiving emergency clean‑water supplies. In Yogyakarta’s Gunungkidul district, 16 water‑tank trucks served 67 families; in Central Java’s Semarang regency, 586 families obtained water from 5‑000‑liter tankers; and in East Java’s Jember, 125 families received 9 000 liters of water and additional jerry‑cans.
Regional disaster offices also stepped up distribution. Karawang’s BPBD delivered 55 000 liters to 825 families across three villages. In West Java’s Tasikmalaya and Sukabumi districts, BNPB and local BPBDs provided water to 850 and 150 families respectively, using tank trucks and portable containers. The provinces have declared an emergency drought status from 1 June to 31 August 2026, urging water conservation and the use of rainwater where possible.
