West Java's Legok Nangka Waste‑to‑Energy Plant Breaks Ground
On 29 July 2026, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of construction for the Legok Nangka waste‑to‑energy plant (PSEL) in Legok Nangka, Padalarang, Bandung Barat, West Java. The project follows President Prabowo Subianto’s directive to resolve urban waste by 2029.
The facility will process roughly 2,000‑2,131 tons of municipal waste each day from six districts, using incineration technology operating above 800 °C to minimise dioxin formation. It is expected to generate about 40.79 MW of electricity, cut emissions by roughly 311,000 tonnes CO₂‑equivalent and create jobs in the region. The US$400 million (≈ Rp7.2 trillion) investment is a partnership between Japanese firms Sumitomo Corporation and Hitachi Zosen, organised through PT Energia Prima Nusantara.
Vice‑Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi attended the ceremony, emphasizing the plant’s role in providing clean energy and alleviating the waste‑dump pressure that still forces about 70 % of Bandung’s waste to the Sarimukti landfill.
