West Nile fever deaths reach five as hospitalizations continue
The death toll from West Nile fever has reached five following the passing of a 73-year-old patient. Fadil Cana, director of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, reported that the deceased patient from Skopje had been hospitalized for 22 days in critical condition and required respiratory support.
Currently, 21 patients are hospitalized, including 18 with confirmed neuroinvasive virus infections and three suspected cases. While 19 patients have recovered and been discharged, four others remain in intensive care in serious condition. Most patients presenting with severe clinical symptoms are elderly, though one 25-year-old individual is also currently hospitalized.
