West Nile Virus Case Confirmed in Dos Hermanas, Spain, Extending Alert Zone

The Andalusian Health Department confirmed a new human case of West Nile fever in a man from Dos Hermanas, Sevilla. The patient is hospitalized with neuroinvasive meningoencephalitis, raising the season total to 14 diagnosed cases.

The municipality has been placed under a health alert until 30 August, and the alert remains active for La Puebla del Río. Nineteen municipalities across Andalusia are currently designated as alert areas, prompting intensified entomological, animal and human surveillance, mosquito‑control actions, and public communication through pharmacies and nursing services.

The diagnoses were confirmed by the reference laboratory at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío. Local authorities are urged to strengthen vector‑control measures within a 1.5 km radius of identified breeding sites.
