Health authorities in Andalusia confirmed a fifth mild case of West Nile virus in a man from Coria del Río, Sevilla, on 24 July. The patient first showed symptoms on 17 July and the infection was verified by PCR at Hospital Universitario Virgen del Rocío.

The regional government extended the municipal health alert for Coria del Río until 14 August and placed Bollullos de la Mitación (Sevilla), Fuengirola and Las Lagunas (Málaga) under a minimum four‑week alert. Measures include intensified entomological, animal and human surveillance, community education through pharmacies and nursing staff, and reinforced mosquito‑control actions by local councils within 1.5 km of breeding sites. With these actions, fifteen Andalusian municipalities are now in the alert zone.
