West Nile virus cases and deaths reported in Georgia and Cyprus
Health officials in Georgia and Cyprus are reporting increases in West Nile virus cases. In Georgia, the Department of Public Health has confirmed eight human cases and one death in 2026. Mosquito traps have tested positive for the virus in Chatham, Fulton, and DeKalb counties. Officials warn that the number of cases is expected to rise as mosquito season continues through October.
In Cyprus, 14 cases of West Nile virus have been recorded this year, including one death. In response, the Nicosia municipality has implemented daily mosquito-control operations, targeting river channels, drainage grates, and areas with stagnant water to mitigate breeding grounds.
