Italy implements emergency mosquito control amid virus outbreaks

Multiple regions across Italy are implementing emergency mosquito control measures following reports of West Nile Virus and Dengue fever. In the province of Brindisi, Fasano has scheduled two cycles of nocturnal disinfestation to contain mosquito populations after several confirmed cases in the area, including two tourists.

In other parts of the country, local authorities are responding to specific outbreaks. A 90-year-old man died in Cassago Brianza after contracting West Nile, prompting immediate local interventions. In Chiavari, emergency treatments were ordered following the detection of the virus in an animal. Costa Masnaga and several other municipalities have also activated extraordinary disinfestation plans to mitigate transmission risks.

Additionally, a case of Dengue fever in Fiesole has led to urgent ordinances to combat the tiger mosquito. Across these various locations, health officials are advising residents to keep windows and doors closed, protect pets, and remove standing water to prevent mosquito breeding.
