West Nile virus found in mosquito samples across California counties

Mosquito samples collected in Fillmore, Ventura County, and in the Mecca and North Shore neighborhoods of the Coachella Valley tested positive for West Nile virus, marking the first positive sample in Ventura County this year. No human cases have been reported in Ventura.

Both the Ventura County Environmental Health Division and the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District issued public health alerts. Recommendations include eliminating standing water, using EPA‑registered insect repellents, wearing long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk, and reporting mosquito breeding sites. The Coachella Valley district also noted ongoing wide‑area larvicide treatments in nearby cities to reduce adult mosquito populations.
