West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi Opens Integrated School to End Poverty

Governor Mahyeldi Ansharullah of West Sumatra officially inaugurated the Integrated People's School (Sekolah Rakyat Terintegrasi) 3 Dharmasraya in Nagari Sungai Kambut, Pulau Punjung district, on 31 July 2026, marking the start of the 2026/27 academic year.

The school is part of the national Sekolah Rakyat program that provides free boarding education and basic living needs for children from poor and extreme‑poor families, aiming to build human capital for Indonesia’s “Golden Generation 2045”. Mahyeldi emphasized that education is the most effective tool to break inter‑generational poverty and urged schools to conduct the orientation period (MPLS) in a safe, non‑violent environment. Wildan Humaidi, head of the BBPPKS, confirmed that the government will also cover students’ essential needs during their studies.
