West Sumatra Weather Agency Issues Heavy Rain Warning for Mentawai Islands
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) for West Sumatra issued a warning that moderate to heavy rain may affect the Mentawai Islands and surrounding coastal districts on Monday, 8 June 2026. The agency highlighted the risk for areas including Mentawai, Padang Pariaman, Pesisir Selatan, Pasaman Barat, and nearby regencies, with expected rainfall intensities ranging from moderate to heavy throughout the day and into the night.
Temperatures are forecast between 18 °C and 33 °C with humidity between 60 % and 98 %. Winds are expected from the southwest to northwest at 4‑32 km/h. BMKG advised residents to monitor updates and prepare for possible impacts such as flooding and landslides.
