West Virginia and Central Virginia Flood Alerts Prompt Travel Warnings

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for southern West Virginia and adjacent areas of northeast Kentucky, southeast Ohio and southwest Virginia, remaining in effect until 11 a.m. Tuesday. The watch highlights rapid‑rise risk along Interstate 79 and south of Interstate 64, affecting cities such as Charleston, Beckley, Logan and Summersville. Officials urged motorists to "Turn Around, Don’t Drown" and advised residents near streams to monitor conditions and move to higher ground if needed.

Separate flash‑flood warnings were released for central Virginia as slow‑moving thunderstorms produced intense rain. Low‑lying roads, creeks and urban areas were identified as vulnerable, and residents were told to avoid flooded roadways, stay alert to changing conditions and follow local emergency directions.
