West Virginia Delegate Elliott Pritt Resigns Amid Child Sex Arrest

Republican delegate Elliott Pritt, a Fayette County teacher and former assistant majority leader of the West Virginia House of Delegates, submitted a one‑sentence resignation letter on July 27, 2026 after appearing before a federal magistrate. He had been arrested on federal charges of enticement of a minor.

The criminal complaint alleges Pritt used online platforms including Roblox and Snapchat to communicate with a 15‑year‑old girl, sending and requesting nude photographs and later meeting her in his Oak Hill High School classroom in late 2025. The investigation was led by Homeland Security agents.

In response, 81 of the 91 members of the House Republican caucus sent a letter to Governor Patrick Morrisey asking that a special session be called on August 10, 2026 to consider a resolution to expel Pritt from the House. The caucus also opposed opponents of child‑welfare legislation that Pritt had defended on the final night of the 2026 session.
