West Virginia football defeats TCU to end 32-year statistical streak

The West Virginia Mountaineers secured a 24-20 road victory against the TCU Horned Frogs, marking their second consecutive win and improving their record to 5-3. The win is statistically significant as West Virginia became the first team in 32 seasons to defeat TCU after being outgained by at least 210 total yards. According to reporter Tony Caridi, TCU had previously held a 75-0 record in games where they held such a substantial yardage advantage.

Despite the win, West Virginia struggled with offensive production, totaling only 272 yards. Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. completed 7-for-15 passes for 79 yards and threw one interception. Head coach Rich Rodriguez noted that the team appeared fatigued after playing eight consecutive weeks without a bye.

The game was decided by a late defensive stand in the red zone. After TCU drove deep into West Virginia territory, the defense sacked Horned Frogs quarterback Jaden Craig, causing a fumble that was recovered by linebacker Ben Cutter to seal the victory.
