West Virginia football updates personnel and defensive shifts

West Virginia University football head coach Rich Rodriguez provided updates on team personnel and defensive adjustments during a recent press conference. A significant development involves transfers JaCorey Thomas and NaQuari Rogers, who were granted an extra year of eligibility following a preliminary injunction from a Monroe County Circuit Court judge in Indiana.

Thomas, a former nickel/safety from Georgia, has officially suited up for the team. While he did not play in the recent game against Oklahoma State, Rodriguez noted that Thomas is learning the system and is expected to contribute to the safety rotation soon. Defensive coordinator Zac Alley indicated that Thomas's speed and hitting ability could provide much-needed support to a secondary that has struggled with containment and coverage during recent games.

Rodriguez also addressed defensive performance issues, citing a combination of personnel shifts and schematic needs to better protect against big plays and quarterback scrambles.
