Severe storms and flooding in South Africa's Western Cape have forced the reopening of the southbound N1 between Worcester and Paarl under a stop‑and‑go system, while the northbound lane remains closed. Authorities have barred trucks carrying dangerous goods from using the reopened route, directing them to turn back, and warn of expected queues lasting 1.5 hours or more. The restrictions affect long‑distance freight, especially fuel and chemical shipments.

The extreme weather has also prompted South African National Parks to temporarily shut sections of Table Mountain National Park and the Garden Route parks for safety reasons, delivering a further blow to the province's tourism sector.
