Western Greece approves infrastructure and heritage projects

The Western Greece Region has approved two major infrastructure projects under the ‘Western Greece 2021-2027’ program, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

One project focuses on the restoration and promotion of the Alyzia Hero, a significant Roman funerary monument located in the Kandyla community of the Xeromeros Municipality. With a public budget of €810,000, the initiative aims to improve accessibility and visitor experience through the restoration of architectural elements, new lighting, the creation of walking paths, and the installation of bilingual signage, including Braille.

A second project involves the modernization of wastewater management infrastructure at the University of Patras. This €3.2 million investment includes the construction of a new automated backup pumping station, the installation of a new sewage pipe, and the implementation of a tertiary treatment system. The project also features the development of a 200-acre area for treated water disposal, which will include planting olive trees and bamboo to support environmental protection and the circular economy.
