Infrastructure and development projects in Greece

Infrastructure and development initiatives are being advanced in Greece through various regional and national projects.

The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport is seeking European Commission funding for the final 90-kilometer section of the Olympia Odos highway, specifically the Pyrgos-Kalo Nero-Tsakona stretch. The project, estimated between €700 million and €1 billion, aims to address traffic volumes that are 15% higher than original projections. Officials are evaluating technical solutions, including a ‘low-cost’ scenario to minimize environmental impact in the Zacharos region.

Concurrently, the Western Greece Region has approved two separate projects co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund. These include an €810,000 initiative to restore the Alyzia Hero Roman monument to improve accessibility and visitor experience, and a €3.2 million modernization of wastewater management infrastructure at the University of Patras, which incorporates a tertiary treatment system and environmental protection measures.
