Western Greece food distribution program faces three-year delay

Kostas Karpetas, leader of the ‘Mazí Allázoume – Dytiki Ellada’ faction, has raised urgent questions regarding the three-year interruption of food and basic necessity distribution programs in Western Greece. He characterized the situation as ‘social abandonment’ rather than a mere delay, affecting thousands of vulnerable citizens in Achaia, Elis, and Aetolia-Acarnania.

The disruption follows the conclusion of the TEBA program in 2023. The replacement program, EVYS, has faced significant delays after a tender worth approximately 47.8 million euros was canceled in Western Greece, forcing the restart of procurement processes.

Karpetas is calling on the Regional Authority to not only restart the program but also to secure retroactive compensation for the lost support. While there are reports regarding the potential use of prepaid cards or vouchers to cover the gap, no official institutionalization of this retroactive aid has been established.
