Western Greece receives €52 million for water and wastewater projects

The Regional Governor of Western Greece, Nektarios Farmakos, approved three major projects under the "Western Greece 2021‑2027" programme, allocating a total of €52 million. The initiatives target sustainable water‑resource management, increased resilience to climate change and upgraded wastewater treatment to safeguard public health and the environment.

Funding is split into three parts: €25 million will strengthen water‑resilience by reducing leakages, expanding storage, promoting water reuse technologies and digitising infrastructure. €22 million will finance the completion of sewage‑collection and treatment networks in medium‑size towns (population 2,000‑15,000), including Zakharos, Kato Achaia, Astakou and the University of Patras facilities. The remaining €5 million supports small settlements (under 2,000 residents) with advanced biological‑treatment plants, water‑reuse systems and energy‑efficiency upgrades.
