Western Greece subsidizes student transport costs by over 50%

The Region of Western Greece has signed contracts to subsidize student transportation, reducing monthly pass costs by 50% or more in several areas. The initiative, signed by Regional Governor Nektarios Farmakis, aims to provide financial relief to students and their families.

In Patras, monthly pass prices for Zone A will drop from 27.50 euros to 12 euros, while Zone B will decrease from 37 euros to 17 euros. In Messolonghi, the cost will be reduced from 40 euros to 20 euros.

The program has an approved budget of 3,000,000 euros and covers the academic years 2026-2027, 2027-2028, and 2028-2029. It is funded by the Regional Development Program (RDP 2026–2030). Initial contracts include a 700,000 euro agreement with Urban KTEL Patras for the 2026-2027 period and a 60,000 euro agreement with Urban KTEL Messolonghi to cover student travel through 2029.
