Western Sydney faces surge in gangland violence

Western Sydney is experiencing an escalation in gangland violence, marked by a series of shootings that have left community members shaken. Local residents and funeral workers have expressed frustration over the perceived lawlessness of recent attacks, noting a departure from previous gang ethics.

In a recent week, three people were killed in separate incidents. Louis Meehan was shot dead behind a boxing gym in Punchbowl, an attack police believe is linked to organized crime. Meehan had reportedly been associated with the Alameddine crime gang, which is currently engaged in a conflict with the Coconut Cartel. Other recent victims include 23-year-old university student Marco Tapia, who was shot in his bed in Glen Alpine, and 40-year-old Joshua Macdonald, who was shot in Merrylands West. Two men were arrested in connection with the Macdonald shooting.
