WhatsApp enables iPad to function as primary device
WhatsApp has released version 26.25.74 for iPadOS, allowing the tablet to be set up as a primary device rather than merely a companion to a phone. Users can register their account directly on the iPad with a phone number or a Passkey, unlocking full functionality such as live‑location sharing, broadcast lists and business‑chat flows.
The new primary‑device mode removes the previous limitation that logged the iPad out after 14 days of phone inactivity and eliminates the need for a constantly connected smartphone. Existing companion mode is retained for those who prefer it. The feature is being rolled out gradually through the App Store, so availability may vary by region.
The change is intended to improve the experience for iPad users who rely on the tablet for work, study or travel, especially when their phone is unavailable or under repair.
