WhatsApp tests AI content labeling for iOS channels

WhatsApp is testing a new ‘AI Content Label’ feature for iOS channel updates, allowing administrators to identify media that has been created or edited using artificial intelligence. The feature is currently being rolled out to select beta users via TestFlight on version 26.34.10.70.

Channel admins will be able to apply the label through the update’s context menu. Once a label is applied and confirmed, it cannot be removed, and it will be visible to all users viewing the channel, including other administrators. The labeling is not limited to Meta AI; it is intended to cover content generated or modified by other services such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini.

While the feature is primarily manual, WhatsApp may also implement capabilities to automatically detect and label certain AI-generated media. This rollout follows similar functionality previously released for the Android version and aims to help administrators comply with legal requirements regarding AI disclosure in various jurisdictions.
