WhatsApp to add AI‑generated content label for channel posts

WhatsApp is testing a new label that marks images and videos created with artificial‑intelligence tools in channel updates. The feature appears in the Android beta (version 2.26.31.1) and lets admins press‑and‑hold a post to select “Add AI content label”, which then appears as a permanent tag on the message bubble. Text messages, even those drafted with WhatsApp’s own writing assistant, are exempt.

The label is tool‑agnostic – it applies whether the media was generated with Meta AI, ChatGPT, Gemini, Midjourney or any other AI system – and is intended to help the app comply with emerging regulations in several countries that require clear disclosure of AI‑generated media. WhatsApp plans to bring the same functionality to iOS, though no public rollout date has been announced.
