WhatsApp to update compatibility requirements in November 2026

WhatsApp will implement new technical requirements for its messaging service starting in November 2026. This change will affect older mobile devices that can no longer support the necessary operating system updates required for security and performance.

For Android users, devices must run at least Android 6.0. Affected models include several older Samsung Galaxy devices (such as the S3, S4 Mini, and Note 2), first-generation Motorola Moto G and Moto E models, and various LG, Sony, and Huawei devices that cannot be updated to the minimum version.

Apple users face a specific deadline on November 30, 2026, when the minimum requirement will increase to iOS 15.5. This change will prevent older iPhones, such as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, which are limited to iOS 12, from using the application. The update also applies to WhatsApp Business. The company stated it periodically reviews supported operating systems to ensure users have access to essential security features and new functionalities.
