WhatsApp minimum system requirement updates

Overview

WhatsApp is updating its minimum system requirements, which will prevent the application from functioning on older mobile devices.

For Apple users, the application will require iOS 15.5 or newer by November 30, 2026. This change affects several older iPhone models, including the iPhone 6s, 7, and the original SE, which are limited to iOS 15. Models such as the iPhone 5s and 6 cannot support the required version and will lose service. This update also applies to WhatsApp Business.

For Android users, the service requires version 6.0 or later. Devices running version 5.1 or older will lose access to messaging and updates. Impacted Android models include various Samsung Galaxy series, such as the S3, S4 Mini, and Note 2, as well as older Motorola Moto G and E, LG Optimus, Sony Xperia, and Huawei models.

The platform stated that it periodically reviews supported operating systems to ensure security and necessary features. Users with affected devices will receive notifications to update their software before support is suspended.
