WhatsApp to end support for older Android and iOS devices
WhatsApp is updating its minimum system requirements, which will prevent the application from functioning on older mobile devices. For Android users, the service requires version 6.0 or later; devices running version 5.1 or older will lose access to messaging and updates.
For Apple users, the application will require iOS 15.5 or newer by November 30, 2026. This change affects several older iPhone models, including the iPhone 6s, 7, and the original SE, which are limited to iOS 15. While some of these devices can be updated to iOS 15.5, others like the iPhone 5s and 6 cannot support the required version and will lose service.
Impacted Android models include various Samsung Galaxy series (S3, S4 Mini, Note 2), Motorola Moto G and E (1st generation), LG Optimus models, and older Sony Xperia devices. Users are encouraged to back up their chats to iCloud or other services to prevent data loss when transitioning to compatible hardware.
