Wheat farmers in Iran face payment delays and rising energy costs

Wheat farmers in Iran are facing significant delays in receiving payments for their crops, raising concerns regarding food security and future planting seasons. Despite previous promises that additional funds would be deposited by August 13, reports indicate that the expected payments have not yet materialized.

Salar Moradi, the representative for Sanandaj, Divandarreh, and Kamyaran, met with the Minister of Jihad-e-Agriculture to advocate for the immediate settlement of these debts. Moradi emphasized the strategic role of wheat producers in national food security and requested that the government facilitate payments through the Agriculture Bank and the ‘Green Pay’ wallet.

In addition to payment delays, farmers are struggling with rising electricity costs. Moradi called for a review of tariff policies to mitigate the financial pressure on agricultural producers. Current data from the National Wheat Growers Foundation suggests that while the volume of purchased wheat has reached approximately 8 million tons, the proportion of total value paid out to farmers has decreased as the government's debt grows faster than the disbursement rate.
