Mattel releases Whitney Houston Barbie Signature doll

Mattel has released a new Barbie Signature doll to honor the musical legacy of the late Whitney Houston. The collector’s item was unveiled during the fifth annual Legacy of Love gala in Atlanta, an event hosted by the Whitney E. Houston Legacy Foundation.

The doll is inspired by Houston’s iconic look from the 1987 music video for ‘I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me).’ It features a purple bodycon dress, colorful earrings, and her signature 1980s curly hair and fringe. The release coincides with the singer’s birthday and the launch of ‘WH1TNEY,’ a new compilation of her 11 Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles.

Developed in close collaboration with Pat Houston, the executor of the singer’s estate, the project aims to celebrate the artist’s enduring influence. The doll is available for approximately $60 through retailers including Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
