WHO Chief: Thousands of Gaza patients await medical evacuation

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that thousands of patients in the Gaza Strip are currently awaiting medical evacuation for urgent treatment.

Last week, the WHO facilitated the evacuation of 106 patients, including 19 children, through the Rafah and Kerem Shalom crossings, accompanied by 132 individuals. Since October 2023, a total of 13,237 patients—including 6,276 children—and 16,406 companions have been evacuated from the territory.

Tedros emphasized that continuous access through multiple border crossings is essential to ensure patients receive timely medical care, noting that these evacuations provide a vital chance of survival for those in need of immediate intervention.
