WHO: Thousands of patients await medical evacuation in Gaza
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that thousands of patients in the Gaza Strip are awaiting urgent medical evacuations despite an ongoing ceasefire. WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic noted that significant challenges persist regarding the evacuation process due to the continued blockade.
Since October 2023, a total of 12,913 patients, including 6,186 children, have been evacuated, along with 16,000 companions. However, Jasarevic highlighted that evacuations currently only occur three to four times per week. For instance, between August 2 and August 8, only 101 patients and 164 companions were successfully evacuated.
According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, Israeli attacks have resulted in 1,258 deaths and 4,145 injuries. Since the start of the conflict in October 2023, the ministry reports a total of 73,386 deaths and 174,256 injuries in the Gaza Strip.
