Whoosh high-speed rail transitions to full Indonesian operation

PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC) announced that the operation and maintenance of the Whoosh high-speed rail service are now fully managed by Indonesian workers. This transition follows a three-year knowledge transfer process involving Chinese professionals from the Operation and Maintenance Consortium (OMC), which concluded in August 2026.

Since commencing commercial operations on October 17, 2023, the service has carried a total of 18.2 million passengers. Of these, more than one million were international travelers, with Malaysian citizens accounting for approximately 43 percent of foreign ridership.

The service has expanded from 14 to 62 daily trips, with daily ridership peaking at over 26,000 passengers. KCIC reported a 99.4 percent on-time performance rate and a 95.95 percent customer satisfaction rate over its first three years of operation, with no recorded accidents.
