Indonesia Whoosh high-speed rail operations

The Whoosh high-speed rail, operated by PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia China (KCIC), has reached a milestone of 18.2 million passengers since beginning commercial operations on October 17, 2023. Over its first three years, daily trips increased from 14 to 62, with peak daily ridership exceeding 26,000.

To improve international connectivity, a collaboration between Indonesian Immigration and KCIC was launched on October 16, 2026. This allows international arrivals to book Whoosh tickets for travel to Bandung or Karawang through the ‘All Indonesia’ platform, which integrates immigration, customs, health, and quarantine declarations. As of August 2026, foreign nationals had accounted for nearly 944,087 trips.

Following a three-year knowledge transfer process with Chinese professionals from the Operation and Maintenance Consortium (OMC) that concluded in August 2026, KCIC announced that the operation and maintenance of the service are now fully managed by Indonesian workers. The service reported a 99.4 percent on-time performance rate and a 95.95 percent customer satisfaction rate during its initial three years of operation.
