Wichita vehicle crash kills two at Stryker Sports Complex

A vehicle crash at the Stryker Sports Complex in Wichita, Kansas, resulted in the deaths of 6-year-old Adrian Cole and 35-year-old Nicholas Schafer on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred during a youth soccer match when a black Chevrolet pickup truck drove onto the field, striking multiple people.

At least 11 people were injured in the collision, including five children aged between 5 and 9 years. The victims' injuries ranged from bruises to serious trauma, though none were reported to be life-threatening. Two juveniles were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The 34-year-old female driver, a resident of Garden City, was taken into custody. She has since been released without charges pending the results of toxicology testing and a mechanical inspection of the vehicle. Investigators are working to determine if the incident was an accident or intentional, noting that the driver did not appear to brake before the impact.

Following the tragedy, the Kansas State High School Activities Association suspended nearby flag football state competition matches. All activities at the Stryker Sports Complex have been canceled until further notice as police continue to review video evidence and witness statements.
