Wicknell Chivayo and first wife enter legal dispute over assets

Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his first wife, Sonja Louise Madzikanda, are engaged in a high-profile legal dispute following the breakdown of their marriage. The couple, who married under customary law in 2017 and have two children, separated in early 2024.

Madzikanda has filed claims in the High Court involving millions of dollars, luxury vehicles, and properties located in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Her allegations include infidelity, emotional abuse, and abandonment. In response, Chivayo has filed emergency applications regarding child visitation rights and has alleged that conflicts between Madzikanda and his family members contributed to the marital collapse.

A settlement was approved by the High Court involving child maintenance. Under the agreement, Chivayo committed to payments intended for the maintenance and investment for their children, with reports indicating a settlement value of approximately US$5 million.
