Wicknell Chivayo leaves millions in unpaid luxury vehicle debts
Wicknell Chivayo has left a trail of unsettled payments and unfulfilled promises involving luxury vehicles and high-value equipment. Car dealers in Harare report millions of dollars in unpaid balances for luxury vehicles provided under deferred-payment deals.
Among the unfulfilled pledges were 10 bulletproof Toyota Fortuners, US$250,000 in tactical equipment, and iPhone 17 Pro Max devices intended for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Homicide Division. Lawyers representing various clients confirmed that the ZRP received none of these items.
Other beneficiaries of Chivayo's announced gifts also face unsettled accounts. Members of the Johane Masowe church were promised 15 Toyota Fortuners and US$5,000 each, while Alick Macheso’s band received 10 Toyota Aquas with additional vehicles promised but not fully paid. These patterns of announced gifts followed by unpaid supplier balances have drawn significant public scrutiny.
