Świdnica opens new bike town while the former juvenile detention centre remains undecided

On July 27, 2026 the city of Świdnica inaugurated a modern bicycle‑training town that cost 180,000 zł to build. The facility includes intersections, a railway crossing, stop signs and bike sluices, allowing children and adults to practice safe riding. Mayor Beata Moskal‑Słaniewska said the town will help cyclists learn traffic rules and reduce conflicts with motorists.

The former Zakład Poprawczy i Schronisko dla Nieletnich on Sprzymierzeńców Street, closed on March 31, 2026, remains empty. The county spends more than 21,000 zł each month on its security. The Territorial Defence Forces (WOT) have shown interest in taking over the 3.5‑hectare site for military use or refugee housing, but formal procedures have stalled. Starosta Piotr Fedorowicz noted that “the matters have not moved a step forward” and the transfer is still pending.
