German towns boost cycling with pilgrimages, Stadtradeln contests and funding
A number of German communities organised cycling activities in late May and June 2026. In Wangen, a 60‑km "Radwallfahrt" pilgrimage gathered about 25 cyclists who rode through historic villages, visited chapels and the Rochus‑Kapelle before returning to Molpertshaus.
The nationwide "Stadtradeln" campaign continued across several towns. Neuhausen hosted six teams that together rode 14,765 km, saving roughly 2.5 t of CO₂. Mettlach invited residents, workers and students to register online and log their rides between 30 May and 19 June. Wiesbaden marked World Bicycle Day with an after‑work tour that crossed the Rhine to Mainz, ending with a bike‑party at Kransand. The municipality of Neu Wulmstorf also called on citizens to join the 2026 Stadtradeln effort.
Separately, the Lower Saxony state programme allocated funds to the Harburg district for road and bicycle‑path upgrades, including a new cycleway on the K 40 between Hollenstedt and Dierstorf‑Heide and a roundabout at the B 75/L 141/K 57 junction.
