Wihaji promotes postpartum family planning to improve child development

Wihaji, the Minister of Population and Family Development and Head of the BKKBN, has emphasized that postpartum family planning (KB) serves as a vital investment in improving family quality. He stated that the program should move beyond mere administrative targets to focus on tangible benefits, such as allowing mothers to plan future pregnancies effectively.

By ensuring proper birth spacing, postpartum family planning helps guarantee that newborns receive optimal breastfeeding, nutrition, and parenting. Wihaji noted that these factors are essential for a child's health and developmental opportunities.

To address challenges regarding contraceptive availability, healthcare worker readiness, and public awareness, the government plans to introduce innovations. This includes drafting a Ministerial Regulation (Permen) to strengthen administrative data and legal frameworks. Wihaji also called for more creative and engaging educational approaches to help the public view family planning as a long-term investment in the next generation rather than just the use of contraception.
