Wijkertunnel and Assendelft crossing closures in North Holland (July‑August 2026)

Rijkswaterstaat will close the Wijkertunnel (A9) in the Netherlands from 12 July to 8 August 2026 to replace its end‑of‑life ventilation system. The tunnel will be shut in both directions for four weeks, with traffic diverted to the Coentunnel (A10) and Velsertunnel (A22). Drivers should expect 30‑60 minutes of extra travel time, and the Velsen ferry will carry only pedestrians, cyclists and light vehicles during the works.

Separately, the Korte Industrieweg railway crossing in Assendelft will be closed from 18 July to 8 August 2026 for three weeks of upgrades, including new underground detection loops and replacement of signalling equipment. Motorised traffic must use a detour via Dorpsstraat, Ambachtslaan, Saendelverlaan and Rosariumlaan, while pedestrians and cyclists can still use the adjacent crossing. These works are intended to improve traffic‑light response and prepare for the larger Brug Krommenie project slated for 2027‑2030.
