Wild boar collisions on Bitonto‑Giovinazzo road raise safety and farm damage concerns

Video footage shows several wild boars dead after being struck on provincial road 88, which connects Giovinazzo and Bitonto in Italy. The incidents involved multiple vehicles and left the animals in pieces along the road shoulder.

Local authorities and residents report frequent sightings of large boar groups, often with piglets, that roam the surrounding countryside, devouring zucchini seedlings, tubers and berries and causing extensive crop loss. Farmers and motorists are demanding urgent action to improve road safety and protect agricultural production. Regional President Giuseppe De Noia has called for an accelerated containment plan, while some stakeholders warn that road blockades or more drastic measures may be considered if the situation does not improve.
