Wild boar eradication in Finland deemed difficult by experts

Experts suggest that completely eradicating the wild boar population in Finland would be extremely difficult due to the species' intelligence, social nature, and ability to hide. The wild boar population, which has grown significantly this century, poses a risk regarding the spread of diseases such as African swine fever.

While hunting is relatively unrestricted and allows for tools like night vision, current Finnish hunting laws prohibit the use of drones for tracking animals. This differs from North America, where drones and helicopters are utilized for management. Climate change is also making the Finnish environment increasingly favorable for wild boar populations, which are currently concentrated near areas where African swine fever has been detected.
