Wild boar populations trigger safety concerns in Spanish municipalities

Residents and local authorities in various Spanish municipalities are taking measures to manage increasing wild boar populations that pose safety risks to citizens and property.

In Mont-Roig del Camp, residents of the Roures i Ametllers urbanization have reported a “plague” of wild boars entering residential areas. Community leaders have expressed frustration over perceived administrative inaction, noting that the animals have caused property damage and pose a recurring security threat. While local officials state they are following regional guidelines, residents claim that effective solutions have yet to be implemented.

In Benalmádena, the Local Police have installed capture cages to control the proliferation of wild boars in urban and municipal areas. Authorities have already captured two live animals and warned the public against attempting to release them, citing the risk of aggressive attacks. Police noted a recent incident where a dog required 15 stitches following an attack. Beyond physical aggression, officials highlighted the health risks, as the animals can transmit diseases through direct contact or contaminated surfaces.
