The 11 municipalities of the Médio Tejo Intermunicipal Community (CIM) have expressed collective interest in joining this pilot project. Manuel Jorge Valamatos, president of the CIM and mayor of Abrantes, noted that while severity varies, the presence of wild boars is a widespread concern for residents and local businesses. State Secretary of Forests Rui Ladeira announced that the pilot project is scheduled to launch in October, coinciding with the upcoming hunting season. The initiative will target high-risk regions to collect data and evaluate the effectiveness of intervention plans. Local hunting clubs, such as the one in Alenquer, have reported increased sightings in peripheral areas. Club president António Parreira noted the scale of the issue is significant, citing 208 boars culled by his club in the last year alone. Hunters are advocating for greater intervention capacity near populated areas and calling for financial support to offset costs. In Spain, management tensions persist between agricultural and environmental interests. In the Girona region, the union Unió de Pagesos continues to demand a comprehensive control plan.
