Wild boar surge in Italy's Sannio region prompts regional and local action

The growing presence of wild boars in the Sannio area of Campania is raising safety concerns for residents, traffic, and crops. Regional councilor Fernando Errico, a member of the Campania Agriculture Commission, urged a dedicated session of the commission to devise a coordinated response involving local administrations, agricultural associations, hunting groups, police, and environmental and health authorities.

In the municipality of Teora, officials convened a provincial technical table that includes representatives from the regional agency CRIUV, the Avellino health authority, the provincial territorial service, the Lioni forest command, the local Carabinieri, and municipal police. The group discussed joint measures such as identifying forest paths that lead boars toward towns, deploying remote‑controlled traps, and extending the hunting season in selected zones. Both initiatives seek a shared operational plan to contain the wildlife issue and protect citizens, farmers, and motorists.
